Our church does a Xmas eve candlelight service with a small choir and a dramatic play. It's for members and visitors alike.

we have services at 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11 (all times pm) on Christmas Eve. 1 Blended service, 2 contemporary and 2 traditional (UMC). They're very, very "seeker friendly" gatherings. Makes for a loooong night especially when coming out of the weekend before we've got 2 different cantatas and giving projects and such. This is my first year at this church (went from a church of 100 to one of 1500+) so it's been a shock to my system to have all this going on. One of our staff members calls it "the death march to the manager" haha

In previous years, we always did some sort of large production about finding the meaning of Christmas. Recently, we've changed to doing a simple Christmas eve service that tells the Christmas story in a creative way. We sing a few Christmas carols, and it's become our tradition to do a candle light version of Silent Night at the end of the service. We also serve hot apple cider before the service.

It's geared as an 'anyone can come' service, and we run from 6-7PM to be accommodating to families that spend Christmas Eve together.

We have a Christmas Eve gathering as well (I have trouble calling it worship or service when people come and sit). It's primarily for the older people in the church because the young adults and youth are usually gone to relatives for Christmas. It's one of those things that has been done since the church assembled 100 years ago. I was at a church once where we did a really neat Lord's Supper on Christmas Eve when it fell on a Sunday. That was a wonderful night of fellowship with God's people and a great time of reflection on why Jesus came to earth.
