Do any of you do video editing for special occasions (weddings, funerals, etc.) and if so, do you charge for it, or is it a part of your job description?
I'm a youth director. My church did not hire me to edit photo slide shows for weddings and funerals. But I know how to do it and this skill is becoming increasingly popular. Our church has no clear policy on this. Since it's not a part of my job description, and I'm providing a service much like a musician or caterer, it's fair that I be able to charge people for this service. Do any of you currently do this? If so is it part of your job or do you charge people to do it? Also if your church has a set fee for sound/video operators for weddings, I'd love to hear about it.

Our church does charge for facility and sound technicians. In my opinion, I would only charge if the person was from outside the church or needed some seriously extensive stuff (but then that would be done on your own time). For me, it's my way of giving them honor and being a part of their memorable day. |

I would charge for it myself if it's not part of the job. At my church and many others I've encountered, the fee the couple pays to use the building includes a fee for the sound techs and janitor. Perhaps your services could fall under that sort of thing? Or maybe it could be offered separately but still for a fee? |
