Our groups have been bag packing in ASDA (part of the Wallmart family). They just help people pack their groceries, and accept donations in buckets. It's been for a variety of things: group funds, charitable donations, trips abroad etc. A day of bag packing with helpers at each checkout generally brings in a few thousand pounds.

We've also had success with talent auctions. The real bonus from these is the auctioneer's book, which is a list of the "talents for sale" that outlives the day.

Our stewardship officer has been able to use the book to solicit help with things like legal work, decorating, joinery, music lessons, photography, drama and so on. It's like an audit of the congregation's abilities, and it's fun too!

We do not do many fundraisers, but the few we do we have soup fellowships after evening service and all the soup and hot dogs are donated and a plate is located at the door and people can throw a donation in and it is a good time of food, fun and fellowship!

We do two fundraisers a year.
1. Trash & Treasure, this is a giant garage sale where we collect items from members and the community and then sale them to members and the community. Last year we made over $10k but this has been 30 years in the making.
2. Turkey Dinner, we provide a good meal a couple weeks before Thanksgiving. The price is right and people come to support it. We get members to bring the food and then sell them a ticket to eat it.
Both of these events also have an aspect of community outreach in that we give away tons of tickets for our Turkey Dinner and we discount items a ton during our Trash & Treasure sale.
These fundraisers work but might take a couple years to get going.

My best fundraiser is our Valentine's Banquet. We use the night for couple's in our church to have a night out for valentine's day and we give them a 5 star restaurant dinner and provide entertainment which is a skit of some sort. We use this as a fundraiser for our missions program.

My husband and I are currently setting up a few car wash Saturdays, and so far they look like they're going to work wonderfully. Our goal with the car wash is to do something away from our little country church, as our congregation already gives very faithfully to our ministry. A car wash is nice because there is very little expense to get it started (soap, buckets, towels- most of these things are easily acquired through donations already) and the youth have fun getting together on a warm day and getting soaked.

-- Serving breakfast on Easter morning at church
-- Our sr. high small groups have a reputation for having excellent food for dinner at each meeting. The moms put together a cookbook and we sold a couple hundred of them at church and in the community.
-- Baking Cinnamon Rolls from scratch and selling them warm and fresh on Sunday mornings.
-- Auctioning kids off for a Saturday of spring cleaning at people's homes.
-- Just simply casting the vision for our trip, expense or purchase in a Sunday service and kindly asking people to donate toward it on their way out.

I think the most successful fundraiser we had is back in 2008 where we were chosen as a host for our diocese's biennial youths gathering.

At first, many doubt about our targeted budget for that event but guess what, our God is a God of provider! =)
