With God ALL things are possible. Be a faithful planter of the seed, don't be so focused on the harvest. God has called you to sow! Yes you may be around to harvest, but SOW, SOW, SOW!! |

I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I'm called to the northeast to do youth ministry. New England is where it's at for me. however, I'm in denver. Have been for the past 4 years. Why? Because to achieve the call, i needed to be prepared, so i went to the seminary that helped me gain utilize the gifts that I've been given to the best of my ability. Maybe I will push back and say, just because you're called doesn't mean you go that millisecond. Is there better preparation that you need/mentoring/etc. I would suggest perhaps some courses in mission and anthropology, help you get better acquainted with culture, etc. |

I agree with the previous posts. I'll also offer these true stories of some things that happened in my ministry. See links below. Some times God just does things in his own time. We live in a culture where everything is immediate and a relationship with God just doesn't grow overnight. I've had students return to their faith after leaving my program, and I've had some go on to change the world. I think you'll be encouraged by the posts below. God bless and hang in there! |

From the semi-autobiography of the great missionary John Paton, after spending 5 years on the island of Tanna in the South Seas among cannibals, and seeing no fruit from his work: "Thus light and shadow pursued each other, the light brightening for a moment, but upon the whole the shadows deepening". Eventually he was chased off the island, having seen all his fellow western missionaries and fellow natives missionaries from nearby islands leave or die (or in a few cases leave then die). There is more to this story (Wikipedia has a good summary) but mostly, he died before he saw the great effect of the work he had done through his unshaking faith that God was on his side because of Christ. how do you define getting nowhere? Is this in terms of success you can see (attendance, salvations, etc??) May I humbly suggest two things that you can either take or leave? #1 - you don't give the Holy Spirit enough credit. Who are you to say what's happening in the people's lives that you're ministering to? You never know what God is doing inside of them and, especially if you work with young people, they might just be too stubborn to let you know that you're on the verge of something that's about to blow up. #2 - who promised you success??? You're called to be faithful, not famous. So you keep doing what you're doing, until God tells you to stop no matter what happens. Jeremiah only had 1 follower his whole time. Don't give up thank you for your bluntness. truthfully i am stubborn because i have experienced and also have seen a lot of junk. just at a point where i need direction from god |
