How can a youth group get involved in disaster relief?
In light of the recent destruction in the the Southern States due to tornadoes, I feel compelled to get my youth group involved in helping out somehow, but I have no idea where to go to get plugged in. Does anyone know of any ministry organizations or churches I could contact about this? I'm not sure exactly what we'd be able to do (e.g. a fundraiser or food drive from home, or traveling to an affected area for a work trip), but I'd like to do something.

Steve, I am so grateful to see your post. My name is Brandon and I am a youth pastor at a church about 30 minutes north of some of the hardest hit areas in Alabama (Hackleburg, Phil Campbell - places that aren't getting as much media coverage as Tuscaloosa, Madison, etc). Our student ministry spent a good bit of time this past weekend. There is a lot you can do. A food drive is a great idea, but honestly, that is what is going on down here a lot! The best place to see what is needed is our website - www.hpbaptist.com we have a running tab of disaster relief efforts through our church and what you can do to help. Thanks for your concern and God bless I'll check it out. Thanks! |
