How do you help parents understand their teens?
I am in the process of designing a series of talks for parenting training. I realize that there are many resources available but I wanted to get your opinions and thoughts on how you best communicate your expertise of teens to parents. What are your most effective ways to grab parents attention?

For me this is done through constant communication. Within the weekly Emails (what's happening, what just happened) that I send out on Mondays I often included links to recent articles from FullerYouthInstitute or CPYU, or whatever else I have come across. This is the thing that usually happens more in casual conversations with parents though. Especially if there is an established relationship. Ask your parents what they struggle with and what their teen is struggling with and address those topics in Email or newsletter or individually as you come across fitting resources. I still have dreams of one day being able to facilitate a parent book study through "Disconnected." It is the easily digestible version of Chap Clark's "Hurt" |
