How do you prepare for a talk
I am just curious as to how each of you prepare for your Youth Talks and/or sermons?

I spend up to 4 months palnning out a series that is topical. We have 4 main elements. A Theme Song, Theme Decor, Movie Clip and a bible character that relates to each topic that we tie in. |

First I download whatever Rick warren spoke on last week and then preach it the next week. |

PS. Don't be afraid to look at other pastors for inspiration on how to preach. I love how Perry Noble speaks and always turn to him to see how he is always direct and straight forward with his messages but it's also interesting and filled with humor. |

Wow!! 20 hours on your message!!! I wish I could do that!!!! I spend about 8-10... I use a stanley: me-we-God-you-we to structure the message.... I really try to let God speak through what ever topic we are on... I try to think about stories in my life that relate to the passage and add in the undrstanding and I try to think about what will make the message memorable...(so not being afriad to be creative) |

I'm pretty much the same as Bruiseman on this one. I'll preach on certain chapters of the Bible breaking them up into series or weeks. I'll read the verses in various translations then out of various study Bible's. I'll read commentaries written by various people, and look up some of my favorite pastors online to see how they've preached it in the past. I look up my reference notes as to what books I have that reference the verses/chapters as well. After compiling notes, I reread the text as a whole plus the before and after chapters laying all my notes aside. I usually take Tuesday and Wednesday to put together the final outline. All together, it takes about 20 or so hours for my Wednesday nights. First tho, lots and lots of prayer. |

I first look at a whole series and break it down in to weeks from there. I think take each week. Depending on the type of talk (topical or exegetical) I then either read the passage or go to Naves Topical Bible or similar resource. |

Prayer and scripture reading. |
