How to do Student Led Events
One of our focuses this year is on getting the students to do more of the planning of the events. We'd like to see how that works and if it fits our culture as a group.
One question we have is, "Is it better to have a group of students plan an event for themselves, or for others?"
For example. Should the Senior High plan the Senior High retreat, or should they plan a retreat for the junior high? Should we have small groups planning events for the large group, or vice-versa, or just everyone involved.
What have you done and how has it worked out for you?

Well we tried something out this Summer that was a HUGE success. It was called Friday Night Live. We had 4 of them this Summer where they were held at 4 different students homes. The students who "hosted" that Friday Night Live was responsible for putting on the activities and games. Then we had a high schooler lead a devo to wrap up the night. The leaders and I were there strictly to ensure the students succeeded! It was awesome! |

I would say both. Have them do an event for others and then an event for themselves. the hard but about doing it for their peers is the respect issue. So establish them in leadership roles during the weekly meetings. |
