In need of help. Struggling with a recent happening.
I was recently asked to resign from a part-time youth director position as I had to work another part time job to help support my family and was not able to "commit enough time to the ministry position." I was also told that I did not have enough experience but that they could not afford to send me to any trainings. I was devastated when this happened but wanted to do what was best for the youth so I left. I just recently found out that the pastor's wife was hired as the new youth director. She has youth ministry experience and has been in search of a job for months now. Its very possible that this just happened, but part of me feels betrayed. Ultimately i want what's best for the youth but am having a hard time overcoming my feelings

The only thing I can add for you is don't hold onto this. You gotta let it go and look towards the future of what God has for you. Sometimes we don't understand why this type of stuff happens but it's quite possible that God was going before you to remove you from an unhealthy situation. You may never know, but the best is yet to come. Remember that. |

So sorry to hear you are hurting; I know most of us have been hurt by the church. You are not alone. As for not enough experience; find a place that you can get that experience, even if it is in a support or volunteer position. Fact is they hired you knowing your experience level; as I too have heard this, I feel it's just an excuse. I say shake the dust from your feet, pray for the church; be involved in the lives of the youth if you can and are able. Don’t let this discourage you and never let man make you doubt your call God has placed on your life. |

I agree with Matt. This seems like a very discouraging experience, but unfortunately it is reality. Your family has to come first, and there are churches/jobs out there that have healthier expectations. I can only imagine how hard is it for you to have to "leave" your students. I also will pray for you and your family going through this. |

Sorry, sounds like you may have been burned a little here. Its a reality that if a church can't pay you enough to sustain you, you would need a second job. Take time to heal, perhaps find an internship to get yourself on your feet again. some churches want to pay you for 15 hours and demand 35. Thats also a reality. Praying for you. Hope you can rebound. I'd probably just walk away from this one and forget about it. Some parts might be about you, but others are probably more about unhealthy expectations. |
