Is it better to use a series or just use small individual lessons to communicate with students?
The reason I ask this is because I have a few ideas for a series but I don't want to get into any sort of rut or take away from any spontaneous leading from God. I just wanna know that if I do make a series and then I feel led to teach something else that I don't Get in the way of God's Leading. What do you guys think.

We intentionally put breaks in our schedule of series. We'll wrap up a 4 week study, then have an "Ask Anything Night" or some other random thing. That helps us stay out of a rut.
We also don't always specify how long a series will run, so we can go longer with hits and cut short the ones that are bombing.
Hope that helps!

In my observation, series are a bit better, because you can continue to build on an idea, topic, and/or Scripture over a few weeks. Also, the students will know what is going on, and they can let their friends know ahead of time what is going on (when they invite them). For instance, when they know we'll be doing a series on wisdom from Proverbs, they can invite their friends to to specifically. Sure, random weeks are great, but I think they shouldn't be every week. |

I appreciate your desire to follow God's leading. But I think we need to be careful of doing something spontaneous for the sake of doing something like that. |

We use series most of the time for many of the same reasons that the other guys said, but don't be afraid to do a one time lesson on occasion if something comes up that needs to be dealt with promptly. |

I like to do a series because we can jump into a subject, topic or passage deeper than we otherwise could with only one week. Plus, it gives kids something to look forward to during the week as they anticipate the aspect or whatever of our lesson. Our series tend to be about 4 or 5 weeks in length each, followed by a pretty chill game night. We also invite other local youth pastors and youth workers from FCA and YFC to come teach, as well, which gives teens a break from me and introduces them to other youth ministries in our community. |

I like doing things in series because I can produce some good promo material that gets the students anticipating what's going to happen. It also makes it easier for them to invite people when they know what's coming up topic-wise. Here are some links to some stuff for the series I'm in now. I don't usually do series that are this long, but these are based on student submissions, so I'm stretching it to 8 weeks. Link Details: 2 years ago
