Need Ideas for a Back to School Luau
Our youth scattered once school let out. We cancelled our Sun. night mtgs for fall and have limped through summer with Wednesday nights only. On Aug 22 we are going to have a back to school pool party at the home of one of our youth. The plan is to have burgers/dogs, get our worship band out there for some worship and maybe a poolside movie. But I'm trying to think outside the box. What things have you done at similar parties that were a hit. Also, we want to get the kids excited about coming back for the fall. We have a small group of about 15 kids, so getting to know each other is not a major issue. Suggestions?

We did a superheroes in Hawaii theme for our Christmas party last year. (Basically a Luau with superheroes.) For games we had a limbo competition and a lemon eating race. The lemon eating race led to some very interesting photographs. |

We did a luau theme once and used games from Hawaii to create a tournament. We did things like spear throwing, bowling coconuts between sticks, hula hooping, and some others that can be found on "games of Hawaii" sites. The kids loved it and it gave us something to do rather than just sit around. |
