I have started holding semi-regular office hours (Monday-Thursday from 9am - 2pm). Afternoons (2pm - 6pm) are reserved for students.

This way, everyone whom I deal with for the ministry (business people, leaders, my ministry team) all know when they can reach me (mornings) and when I am less likely to respond to their call (in middle of dodgeball game).

I am in the office from 9-3 doing admin work (phone calls, emails, letters, planning, etc). I have Monday off and I stick to that. I am not required to be in the office except for staff meeting on Tuesdays. The rest of my time is spent with students, parents and adult leaders. Whether it having lunch with a parents, or hanging out with students after school.

Our office hours are not so much mandatory as they are expected. There is some freedom to work from home or come in late if there is a night meeting, but for me the office is the easiest place to work and not get distracted.

We have our youth floor open after school 4 days a week for our "coffee house" time. It has added so much to our ministry. From 3-5 I am guarenteed to be spending time with youth. I have to try and get most of my work done before that.

I'm paid to do a job, not to sit at my desk for a certain number of hours each week. The staff at my church have a lot of flexibility over when we're in the office, when we're out, what we do, when we do it, etc. If I don't wanna come in to the office, I don't have to. I usually do just because it's easier to communicate with people when we're all together here, but there are many times I just stay at home or take an extra day off because I was up late the night before with a group of students.

I am in the office Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Now with that said, how I structure that time is completely up to me.

I spoke with a youth ministry guy last week that gave me some great insight into how to structure your week:

Mornings - you are pouring yourself out into others

Afternoons - your are pouring into yourself (Prayer, Bible reading, reading books, etc.)

I personally saw a lot of wisdom in that.

Also, one thing I started not too long ago was taking 4 hours a week (1 block of time) and doing future planning. It was recommended in Mark DeVries "Sustainable Youth Ministry." I have LOVED this section of my week and it is non-negotiable.

Notta! I come and go as I please. My wife is an RN and she works one day a week and from week to week that day changes, so my day off is the day she is working.

I start at 8 am (quiet only one in the office, can get a lot done in the first hour w/ no noise or phone calls) and i go home at 5 pm 4 days a week and work 4 hours on saturday.

Some weeks are slow and i spend more time at home, some weeks are busy, so I have less time at home....or have meetings of an evening.

I don't have mandatory hours. I have days that are heavy in the office (usually Mondays) and days that are meetings (Tuesdays and Thursdays) and days I spend more time out of the office (Wednesdays and Fridays). Sometimes things get moved around.

In the end I need to get certain things done and if I do then no one cares where I do them.

I don't have mandatory office hours, though sometimes I kind of wish I did. I find that it's hard for me to get up in the morning and really get moving unless I know I have to be somewhere by a certain time.

One thing I started doing was having "Starbucks Office Hours" for an hour or two each week. This is just a time that I set aside where I go to Starbucks to work but mainly go to connect with kids. I take work along in case no one shows, but it's a time when kids know for sure that I'll be there and they can come and hang out.

But as for regular office hours, I've started to think about making my own schedule and really trying to stick to it for my own sense of accountability.
