Parent Involvement/Parent Responsibilities
What roles do your parents play in your ministry? What, if any, have you given to parents to do/plan? What things should they NOT be given? How much input do you allow parents to have in planning/implementation?

We use parents as much as they want to. We are diligent to make sure they don't help just to watch their own child, but they can be in any role within our ministry. I try to lean on them because ultimately I am here to aid them in helping raise a spiritually mature student. |

I have a few parents that are involved, but most of my parents do not get involved. Often when we do a trip in the summer to a theme park or a trip of that nature, I will get some parents that will volunteer to drive and if I need a sponsor for a weekend event, I will get a few to go with me. |

Parents play a large part of the ministry here. It varies though...they can be as involved as they want to be. From Special Event Chaperones to Small Group Leaders/Sunday School Teachers. I meet with most of the parents that are somewhat interested. The "drop and dash" parents we minister to the family, but as leadership and involvement we look for commitment and by-in to what we have going on. I welcome all input from parents, both negative and positive. I have found that even in angry parents complaints there is truth that can be addressed (hopefully in a healthy way :). I have seen some great success in events that have been planned and executed by parents/adults, i allow that type of freedom...sometimes risky, but a huge plus. |
