Promoting unity between the youth group and the larger adult congregation
I know the youth group is part of the body of Christ but there are many things in the church that many of our youth don't care for, including the music in the adult services and even the preaching sometimes. So they start to get bad attitudes about the adults in general. I don't see a lot of animosity or resentment growing but there are some who believe they should not have to go to the adult services or worship with them or like the adults do. We have plenty of time that the youth get to be together, hang out, have fun, learn and worship together. I just think they also need to understand what 1 Corinthians 12 really means as it speaks about being part of the body. Any suggestions? How do you all promote or teach your youth about this?

Allow students to serve in the adult service. |

Let them serve with an adult during the service. As a children's worker/ greeter and such. |

Use statistics to your advantage. 75% of kids 17-30 drop out and only 25% come back. What does the 25% that stay longterm have in common? "The most important reason why people stay at your church is relationships" (poll by Barna). Get a list of your kids together then take it to your Senior adult classes. Have them "adopt" a grandchild. Go to their games, pray for them, call, email, txt, whatever once a week. Have them commit to devote to a relationship with them. If they don't know how to txt, email, etc AWESOME. teach them. Show them a piece of the kids world and they'll get some perspective of what's changed over the years. |
