I agree with WorshipCity. I grew up in the Baptist church where altar calls were normal. But after 4 years being on the outside looking in I've seen that some altar calls that I used to call normal I now see as being vague, misleading, and emotionally manipulative (I'm not accusing you of that). We had a SYATP rally last year and all the baptist youth pastors were eating out of the speakers hand and I was going, "this isn't right" because of the way he presented the gospel. There was no concrete criterion presented. Basically if your faith doesn't look like "this" then you need to come get right with God. But I think altar calls can be misleading bc kids go back home to the same stuff they had before they went down front. They expect more.

Sadness isn't necessarily a bad thing. What are they sad about?

NOT saying this is your case but one of the frequent experiences I had with some altar calls growing up is that they were emotionally charged with promises of peace, joy, and a "perfect" life with Jesus. There were the best of intentions by far but shortly thereafter I was pretty bummed when that wasn't how it turned out.

Education is a good thing for new believers as well as being real. This is a great opportunity for discipleship. Draw near to this student and walk alongside them.

As far as Spiritual Warfare, it's a constant thing that no matter whether you're a new or old believer is there.
