I think you can get away with a celebration. We have cancelled 1 of our 2 weekly meetings for summer. When we start back up, we are probably going to do a swim party or something fun just so we can touch base with some of the kids whom we haven't seen since school let out (some of ours scatter like cockroaches in summer). So the different venue makes me feel like I can pull it off. Especially if you have a new facility, though, enjoy it, and celebrate!

I agree with the others that have answered this question. I think there are certain times of the year that allow you to have a big celebration... beginning of summer, end of summer, etc. And especially moving into a new facility - that is awesome! Let us all know how it goes.

yes absolutely. There is a certain amount of truth regarding what you do to get them is what you do to keep them, but it is not absolute. We should celebrate good things, have fun, and do things with excellence.

I would agree with Brandon. Go big and make it special. If you advertise it as a big celebration of the new facility then people won't expect it the next week. We did the same thing when we rebuilt our student facility. We brought in a special music act and everything. I don't think any student expected us to do it again next week. Just be honest and you will be good.

I say go big. There's always natural excitement that comes from the beginning of the school year. Throw on top of that the new youth space and you've could have a ton of excitement going on there. I say ride that horse until it cant go anymore...
Now, I dont necessarily agree with your statement about keeping students. If you and your adults are loving kids and making them feel wanted and valued, they will keep coming. It could be a great way to encourage your students who are there to reach out to their friends. The biggest thing is that every student who comes knows they matter to God and to you. I had the same thoughts until a mentor of mine gave me good advise. He said "I dont care why they come as much as I care what they get here
