So...what do you think of Rob Bell's new book?
Me and my wife ordered Rob Bells newest book 'Love Wins' pretty much as soon as we could. We've really enjoyed all his other books, and have agreed with him up to this point.
But in his new book he talks about Heaven and Hell. I agree with him that there is 'Heaven on Earth' when God's will is being done. And I agree that there is 'Hell on Earth' where humans do terrible things to each other.
The problem comes with him re-interpreting the nature of hell after death, or whether it exists. Usually I can follow his thoughts easily but he lost me on this one.
So have you read it?
If so what do you think he was saying?
And do you agree with him?
Massive issue for me when i'm talking about heaven and hell with youth!

I agree with pastorjoe. Whenever someone asserts that the Bible isn't God's inerrant, infallible word, I distance myself from anything that they're involved in. According to Bell's thinking, by him or anyone preaching or teaching about Christ (which is our command in Matt. 28), we are actually causing the "innocent" people who haven't heard the gospel to then be condemned. So we're supposed to keep God a secret because we can't explain Him or His justice and wrath just doesn't feel right to us? I trust the Bible more than any man. When we accept the God of the Bible then routine religion is no longer tolerable, casual worship is no longer possible, total surrender is no longer optional, global mission is no longer negotiable. Would you be able to provide a source for the statement about Rob Bell teaching the Gospel causes 'innocent' people who haven't heard the gospel to be condemned? |

I'm only partially through reading the book. The part that I've found most interesting is that none of the questions and ideas that Rob presents are new. Many other scholars and theologians have wrestled over identical questions over the last few hundred years. Oops, that passage completely slipped my mind when I wrote that. I'll retract my statement. I have not read the book and do not plan too. I have read many reviews and watched personal interviews with Rob Bell. That is enough for me to come to a conclusion. You can read my post and watch the same video interview here ----> http://www.joegormong.com/rob-bell-heaven-hell/ Link Details: 1 year ago

I recently saw some video on the web where he was posing a retorical question about whether or not Jesus is saving us form God - speaking about judgement and other things. I think that he has made some pretty irresponsible statements lately and I find this very disappointing |
