What are the biggest time-wasters in ministry?
So, I've seen this question asked here like this, "What is the best way to spend your time?"
But I'm asking the inverse.
What are the biggest time-wasters in ministry? I bet many are specific to your context, but I'm curious, what things do you HAVE to do but feel is a waste of time?
i.e. working on bulletin boards? meetings with other staff members? writing up work reports for the board of (whatever)?

I do the media stuff in the sanctuary for Sunday services. Staff meetings seem like a waste of time, but they are never very long. Anytime someone calls and needs a DVD player on a projector and I have to show them how the projector is no different from a TV, it's a waste of my time. When people from local businesses use our facilities and bring a laptop and power point but don't know how to make it work with the projector and they call me expecting me to give them tech support, it's a waste of my time (I once did this at 8:00AM on a Saturday morning because I happened to be at church with 30hour famine). Yes, these things waste my time. |
