What creative ways have you covered your absence from youth group?
At the end of the month our men are going fishing in Canada. I plan to go and could have a sub fill in (if I make plans ahead of time), but I was wondering if there are some GREAT, CREATIVE ways you have covered an absence. It would be very cool if it could be even more exciting and educational and bonding than ever! The topic that night is to be "The Great Need - The World" using Lucado's book "3:16". Even if not on that lesson topic, what are your ideas for a youth group when the youth pastor is gone?

I finally got a MacBook Pro just for this reason. When I'm not here, I'm going to make a video of me teaching out of my office. We break out into small groups after about 20 minutes usually so it's not a big deal. I just have to setup the youth room and get it all organized before I head out.

I try to make it as easy as possible for my fill-ins. Unfortunately a lot of our youth parents/volunteers are intimidated by teaching a lesson, so I try to keep things more in a discussion format if I'm gone. I do have one who is a gifted teacher and he usually fills in for me. I like the idea of sticking with a particular study you've been doing, but don't feel tied to it. The Lucado study will still be there if you need to do something different for a week or two. If some of your parents are okay with leading games, it might be fun to do a game night and do some interactive team-building activities. I put a link below for a great game website. |
