Youth Worker training ideas?
What do you do for youth working training? What do you train them on, what fun activities do you incorporate, etc.? I'm looking for ideas!
Previously, each year we've had a youth worker retreat, where we vision cast, review/establish our values, etc. as well as plan the calendar.
This year I think I'd like to scrap that and have a training day instead. Most all of the leaders now aren't committed long term, it's mostly a Sunday ministry for them, and many go teach at camp for summer, etc. It doesn't seem wise to me to do calendar planning and vision casting for an entire year when 80% will not stick around the whole year. I'd prefer to do a small amount of that and focus more on training them to work with/mentor youth.

Obviously I don't know the details of your ministry situation, but if there's that much turnover in youth leader staff, I'd start by taking a hard look at what's going on there. Why are people turning over so regularly? Link Details: 4 months ago
I guess I should clarify. We're a small church (<100) and my workers are primarily college students who are passionate about kids, but also interested in pursuing missions and camp service. Bottom line: they have limited time to devote, and while they love being involved with kids, they're also involved in other areas of ministry/life; also all volunteers. So throughout the year they come and go (camp, missions, etc.) and serve when they can, but most cannot stay the whole year and see much thru |
