WHAT WILL HELL BE LIKE?

1.) Unspeakable Sorrow

Matthew 25:41 (NIV)
Matthew 25:46a (NIV)

In hell there is no hope. The damned have not even the hope of dying - the hope of being annihilated. They are forever - forever - forever - lost.

2.) Eternal Separation From Loved Ones

Luke 13:28-29 (NIV)

3.) Hell Is Forever

HEAVEN

Revelation 20:10 (NIV)
(Rev 19:9) Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb”

Revelation 3:4b & 3:5b (NIV)
4 They will walk with me, dressed in white, for they are worthy.
5 And I will acknowledge their name before

I guess the logic I would use would be that of historical literature.
First of all the Bible is the most documented historical document with the fewest number of years between when it was written and the earliest existing manuscripts. What that basically means is if we trust other historical documents such as ancient Roman records, or Egyptian history, etc. then we must believe the Bible to be an accurate historical document. And if the Bible is true then the claims of Jesus about Heaven and Hell as well as those about His own identity are also true.
God hasn't asked us to blindly believe, just because. He gave us plenty of evidence that our Faith is not misplaced. Hope that makes sense.

There is a lot of folk theology surrounding H&H with both young people and older Christians. We tend to fall to Greek mythology thinking (Mount Olympus/Hades) then Hebrew theology.

Two books that helped develop my theology where then amazing book Surprised by Hope by Wright) & Last Word by McLaren (I know McLaren isn't everyones fav but I if you read it and even hate it it will give you some great insights into the development is a theology of Hell, for example Jesus aimed all of his Hell talk at the religious leaders not the crowds of disciples...why?).

So I think we need to challenge our's and young peoples folk theology on H&H.

Obviously there are numerous scriptures that mention both. And believing scripture is part of the faith experience of Christianity. It takes faith to believe much of what the Bible teaches. Since skeptical kids don't usually want scriptures as proof, the philosopher Pascal had a logical theory about the afterlife with 4 outcomes: Live as if there is no God. If right, only death occurs. If wrong, then hell. Live as if there is a God. If right, then heaven. If wrong, then only death. This wager is not proof. It is only a logical reasoning to trust that God's revelation through creation and humanity is real and that we are better off trusting God with our eternal destiny. See link below. Don'tagree with all of it but like the concept.
