In May of 2008 I ran across this article about forgiveness. Forgiveness is unconditional. We don't earn it; we don't deserve it; we can't bargain for it. Forgiveness is not based on a promise to never do it again. We offer forgiveness to somebody, whether that person asks for it or not. When somebody says, "I will forgive you if", that's not forgiveness; that's bargaining. When Jesus stretched out his hands on the cross and said, "Father, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing" (Luke 23:34), he took the initiative, not waiting for us to first clean up our lives..... you can read the rest of the blog here. http://pastorjoe2.wordpress.com/2011/01/04/ forgiveness/

Sometimes I think this is a head and heart issue. We understand the idea of God's forgiveness, but we have trouble really believing it against all our sin. I also think this issue comes from Satan's attacks. He'll do anything to take away our comfort in Christ and try to keep us in the rut of all our sins, but we have to remember that it's not about us and what we do. It's about Christ and what He has done for us. He can forgive even you and I believe He has, so pray for His guidance that you can stop holding it against yourself.
