I was just talking to some coaches yesterday about our offensive system, motion offense, and about 30-40% of the skills to be developed in the offense is v-cuts, fake moves, fake pases and so on. It's even said that the most overlooked underutilized skill in basketball (take note all you bball coaches) is the shot fake. It all has a purpose, to create space and to break down the defense to get easy baskets.
Yea Jesus would deck Peter in a game of basketball! Remember the verse when Jesus turns to Peter and says "Get behind Me, Satan! You are a bother to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.” (Mat. 16:23)
In a bball game Jesus wouldn't let Peter stop him from his purpose, which is to score buckets.

Absolutely not, I don't believe using fake moves or shot fakes in sports is wrong. These techniques are part of the game and I know well that these things are coached to players to utilize as a method of, like you mentioned, creating space. It's like asking if taking a charge on purpose in basketball is wrong? No way it's wrong because it's a technique that is totally legal to apply in a game to generate a turnover and gain a positive advantage for your team.
But I do have to say that faking fouls and using fakes as an unethical method of gaining the upper hand is very wrong.
I agree with the last person that the manner in which you handle yourself, your testimony on and off the court/field is what counts: your speech, your actions ...

I do not think a fake move is deceptive at all. I think that is simply part of the game.

I think the more serious question comes into play (no pun intended) when you involve faking as in faking a foul in order to get a call or something like that. I know some people would say this is deceptive and lying. I'm still not entirely sure what I think, as every situation/sport might be different.

Overall, I believe the Bible instructs us to be Christ-like in all situations. This involves treating the refs with respect, helping other players out, being a good teammate, etc.

Absolutely not! The rules allow and encourage those kinds of moves, they do not break the rules used for that particular sport.

I bet when David was fighting he used deceptive moves all the time. Rahab deceived people to protect God's people and was blessed for it.

I think we like to make a definitive set of rules to follow to make it easier to follow God. Sometimes we can get caught up in following these rules and loose sight of why we made the rules in the first place.

Take a look at Mark 12:28-32 sometime, and ask yourself "is doing a deke or fake in sports preventing me from showing God's love to my teammates and opponents?"

Personally, I think the way you carry yourself and treat your teammates and opponents will go a lot further to show God's love than wither or not you fake left and get around your opponent to the right.
