Encourage them! Parents are the #1 influence on their teens. Teens really are paying attention. But it's hard to see that. Many parents feel discouraged and feel like their teens aren't listening and like they aren't making a difference. They need to know that they are. This isn't just an encouragement, but a responsibility, though. Many parents think the youth pastor is in charge of their teen's spiritual development. The truth is, we're the support mechanism, but what the parents are modeling is the biggest influence in how a teen will turn out spiritually. So encourage and challenge parents to be great spiritual teachers and role models for their teens!

Yep. Talk vision. Build up to the reason you're doing the summer activities.

i'd include sharing with them how you communicate with them...so you know that they know about your ministry. i'm guessing you use facebook and texting...casting the vision...so your parents are an extension of your team.
