what is so special about Macs ?
Okay, so I may get stoned for this question, or exiled. My church just got a MacBook, and will be one of the primary users, this is the first time I've ever used a Mac for more than 5 minutes. I am wondering what is so special about Macs, and why people love them so much over Windows. Along with answering the question, if you could point me in the right direction of a website or something that can help me make this transition, understand Macs better, and help use it to its potential. I have a feeling this question will generate a lot of feedback....
ALSO What programs are useful that are included that you would normally have to pay for using a PC?

OK, I really don't have much to add to what these guys have said. They brought up some great things. I will respond to the last Q. "ALSO What programs are useful that are included that you would normally have to pay for using a PC?" |

The best part about Macs is that they just work. The do exactly what you want it to do without all the fuss and hassle of a PC. You don't have to bloat your system with software just to keep it running (i.e. antivirus, anti malware/spyware/trojans/adware, registry cleaners, defrags, etc...). |

I make my living in computers (volunteer youth worker). I use both windows and mac ALL the time. I make my real money in windows - cleaning up viruses and other malware. There are no viruses on a mac - unless you count the stealing software that you INSTALL from file sharing web sites (limewire, kazaa and bittorrent). AND porn sites - again you have to install the virus laden software. Windows will allow this stuff to install in the background without your knowledge. I can give you other reasons but not scanning my drive for viruses each time I start up the computer will do for today. |

I have only spent a few hours on the Mac-side of my MacBook Pro so I don't know what the big deal is either. I just installed Boot Camp, loaded Windows Vista 64-bit, and only came back for OS upgrades, the occasional WoW play, and checking out the apps that come with Apple OS. |

I think people are neglecting the biggest perk...entry into a cult. When you buy a Mac, you pay a little more (they're a little more expensive). It's not because you're getting a better computer. The extra money is the cult membership dues. |

They look bright and shiny and don't confuse you with a lot of extra buttons. (Who needs those functions anyway?) |

Yup. I'll try and pretend you didn't ask this. |
