Evangelist, pastor, rev, dr. minister are all the same in my book when it comes to sharing Christ. As a matter a fact you can be must plain Mr. so and so and share the gospel. I would STRONGLY encourage anyone desiring to go into the ministry to get theological training. You may not be able to afford a university, but you can do online or find one week modules or just take them a class at a time. Learning is a never ending process, but it is hard to replace theological training with experience and books & magazines.

It seems to be that certification in evangelism is something certain churches or denominations might do as a way to better equip their people to share the gospel, but is certainly not a requirement to sharing the gospel. I have many friends who are great at evangelism and have never been certified. As ttocsj put it, it's a Spiritual Gift, if you have it, use it. And honestly, if you're witnessing to someone who has never heard the gospel and/or isn't familiar with church, they've probably never heard of evangelism certification anyway. If God is calling you to share Christ with someone, do it to the best of your ability. The training will be helpful, I'm sure, but don't wait on the certificate to share Christ if He's calling you to do so.

Certification, in my opinion, is not nearly as important as having a good reputation and having superb recommendations from ministries in your area! The work of an Evangelist is a Spiritual Gift, while certification might be beneficial in a specific denomination, in my eyes, go out and share the Gospel, pray that God will open doors for you, and network with minister friends to give you the opportunity! When I'm looking, I'm asking friends and ministry leaders who they would recommend- that carries more weight in my eyes than a certification board.
